Dooley Letter

Dear Mr. Dooley,

I hope this note finds you doing happy and well!  I am Adam Testerman, the newest Director of Debate at William Jewell.  It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance and I hope to do so in person when a safer time allows it.  I have learned of your longstanding relationship with Jewell and particularly the debate program.

I wanted to first indicate my appreciation for your support.  The importance of advocacy and research is more obvious all the time.  Society is made better when students are taught to think critically and advocate for a better future - these are the central goals of our debate program.  Your support of Jewell and the debate program allows us to offer students incredibly valuable experiences that I hope will have transformational impacts on their lives now and in all our lives in the future.

While it is no surprise that debate competition is more complicated in these pandemic times, we are resilient.  The students of Jewell Debate have been training hard and improving their skills each week.  We are a relatively young team this year, but it is inspiring to see young people develop their debate skills and grow their confidence through rigorous competition.  I am confident the group we have this year will achieve significant success in the years to come.  I am honored to lead them.

If there is anything I can to do be of service to you, please do not hesitate to ask.  Leading this storied program is not a task I take lightly, indeed, I am honored to walk in the path of giants.  I am honored by your commitment to this college and this program.  Thank you so very much for your support and I will look forward to speaking with you in the future.

Recruitment Letter

Hello!

I am reaching out to you to gauge your interest in joining the William Jewell Debate program.  I am in the process of moving from Lubbock, TX where I’ve been the director of Texas Tech Debate for the past 5 years.  I’m super excited to be the next director at Jewell and I am hopeful that you may be a part of my first group of students at the college.  I would love to chat with you about my plans for the program or answer questions you may have about it.  We may be one of a precious few schools able to to host in-person activities next Fall and I’m hoping the debate team can take a leadership role on campus in a buncha ways to help in that transition.  I don’t know exactly what I mean by that yet, but… it’s going to be great and I think a very exciting time to be involved in the program.  I’m also exploring various options for the program if attending tournaments is not in the cards for the fall.  All this to say, the debate team is relaunching in a big way next year - you should really really consider hanging out with us!
